PC is an abbreviation of personal computer. Computer become personal when need of computer was raised individually. In early periods, computers were used in office and business work only. These computers were of large size as well. Later on, with the advancement in computer technology, computers came into local market. The first computer was very large and consumed lot of energy. Those computers were required a huge amount of electricity that a town utilizes. When personal computers began to manufacture, they were sold limited in number because these computers were costly. The first computer was consisted on a monitor, keyboard and a CPU. This computer used DOS as its operating system. Monitor acts as output device for a personal computer. A first PC monitor was of black and white screen.
New and advanced PC monitors were of very small size and used electron gun to throw electrons on the Phosphorus screen, which glows and displays picture. These PC monitors were called CRT monitors. CRT is an abbreviation for Cathode Ray Tube. A monitor is a visual display of computer's internal calculations and data. It displays the software of computer running in the computer's hardware. First coloured monitor was invented in 1981, which was named CGA. CGA stands for Colour Graphic Adapter. CGA was capable of displaying only 2 colours. Later in 1984, EGA was invented. In EGA numbers of display colours were enhanced. This monitor was able to display 16 colours.
Computer monitors were made on CRT technology, which was cheap to produce. Afterwards monitors were developed in advanced form. The best monitor of time is able to display 16.8 million colours. This monitor is named SVGA, mean Super Video Graphic Array. Computer monitor uses three primary colours Red, Green and Blue to display the image. Monitors combine these three colours in different ways to make an image on the screen. CRT monitors jumped from 16-bit display colours to 24-bit display colours. This was big advantage for programmers and software developers to work more easily.
PC monitor use large amount of small pixels to show image on the screen. Pixels are small dots on the monitor screen from which display image is composed. More pixels and image will be clearly displayed on the monitor. In CRT monitors, the refresh rate is the time in which image is created number of times on the screen. Refresh rate is very important in computer monitors because it is the speed of monitor in creating image on the screen. If refresh rate of any PC monitor is low then image will not be displayed well or display might flicker which cause headache and eyestrain to the viewer. High refresh rate is essential for safe use.
