Get You Degree In Technology And Insure Your Career - Education - College and University

Engineering aside, technology degrees provide graduates with some of the highest-paying salaries. College and university students who obtain these degrees in technology might also find their skills are needed in a variety of fields. Now, students who want to pursue such degrees have a wider array of programs from which to choose.

Stevens-Henager College in Salt Lake City, Utah, for one, announced in October that it was offering a new technology degree in computer science at the bachelor's level. Students work toward the degree online, with studies comprising anywhere from 30 to 36 months. It's designed to prepare those who graduate with the degrees needed for careers in network administration, programming and database management.

Recent reports from the National Association of Colleges and Employers and payscale.com show that graduates with technology degrees particularly command some of the highest salaries. The payscale.com study suggests that students who graduate with degrees in technology at the bachelor's level might expect starting salary offers of around $44,000 to $56,000. The National Association of Colleges and Employers reports that computer engineering graduates average starting salary offers of $60,396, which is similar to the average $60,473 in starting salary offers made to graduates with technology degrees in computer science at the bachelor's level.

According to a Computer Science Education Week website from the Association for Computing Machinery, the government expects that, by 2016, there are to be 800,000-plus additional jobs in computing. Certain occupations might experience some of the fastest growth. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, for example, some of the fastest employment growth into 2018 is expected to be enjoyed by network architects and others work in network systems and data communications.

The Stevens-Hanager College technology degree addition is an online degree program. With technology advancing and adults seeking to acquire new skills or train for new jobs, working professionals and those with families might be among the students who find the Stevens Hanager online degree program appealing. With online degree offerings, students can carry out their studies remotely and in between tending to family and work responsibilities.

Online degree programs can also provide a savings in time and money in that students don't have to commute or worry about child care services. With audio, video and interactive components a part of many online degree programs, students in these programs might also expect to improve their technology skills. The online technology degree offering at Stevens-Henager isn't the only option that students have, however. Stevens Henager College already offers this technology degree program on campus.

Database design and Internet programming are among the skills taught as part of the Stevens-Henager College technology degree program, according to the school's announcement. While the Stevens-Henager technology degree is a bachelor's degree, several master's degree programs have, since 2009, been added at other colleges and universities. Announcements in Inside Higher Education show that, in addition to computer science, these new master's degrees are technology degrees in computer information systems and security and computer modeling and simulation.
