Reviewing The Superb HTC Sensation And The Best Selling Apple iPhone 4S - Technology - Cell Phones

The new Apple iPhone 4S has caused quite a stir since its release, and as expected, many now use this as a benchmark to which other smartphones will be compared. There is no doubt that the iPhone 4S is an amazing device, but its competition from brands such as HTC and Samsung is often overlooked amidst media hype and advertising. One of its most noteworthy rivals, in my opinion is the HTC Sensation.

In this article I will compare the HTC Sensation and the iPhone 4S, using some of their key features as my points of comparison. You can then use your own judgement to decide which is best, based on what you look for in a smartphone.

CameraThe HTC Sensation has an 8 megapixel camera, as does the iPhone 4S, and they both share the same resolution (3264x 2448). Hardware wise, they are quite similar, in terms of their specifications. They also both boast the ability to shoot video in 1080p quality. The main difference between the two is in their software, and the camera interface itself. That of the iPhone 4S seems to be aimed a bit more at simplicity, whilst the HTC Sensation has a lot more adjustable features and settings. As far as the camera is concerned, these two are pretty evenly matched.

Operating SystemThis is one of the biggest differences between these two phones, and probably the one which divides the most opinions. The HTC Sensation sports the latest version of Android (v2.3), a platform which is rapidly gaining in popularity. The iPhone 4S however has the new iOS 5, which is the latest version of the Apple operating system which is exclusive to Apple devices. iOS is well known for its simplicity and ease of use, whereas Android (and especially in the case of the Sensation with its Sense UI) is more aimed at customisation. Each operating system has its own advantages, and choosing between the two is likely to come down to personal preference for the most part.

Screen ResolutionThe iPhone 4S, like the previous iPhone 4 is well known for its high resolution touchscreen, known as the retina display, due to the fact that the pixel density is so fine that individual pixels cannot be distinguished by the naked eye. The resolution of the retina display is 640x 960. The HTC Sensation comes close to this, with a resolution of 540x 960. Therefore, if you plan on using the phone for multimedia purposed, like viewing photos and videos or playing games, the iPhone comes out on top. For an even better screen resolution, Samsung has just released the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus, both of which hove resolutions of 800x 1280 and 720x 1280 respectively.

There are many more features which make these phones great choices. On paper, the iPhone 4S comes out ahead in a few of these, but choosing between the two is likely to come down to personal preference for either a particular brand or operating system.
