Comparing Laptops and Notebooks - Computers - Laptops

Every passing day brings along a new advancement in the world of technology, leaving us grateful for being in such a period of time. For most of us, who have gotten used to the convenience that technology offers every single day; imagining being without it would not be less than a nightmare.

Since a number of years, the portable computers such as laptops and notebooks have left desktop computers far behind, making lives of millions of people a lot more easy and fun. Both these terms "notebook" and "laptop" are usually used interchangeably, to refer to a computer that is basically portable. However, most people are not aware about the slight differences that exist between the two types.

To begin with, laptops are almost similar to desktop computers, with the dissimilarity of a couple of features that exist between the two. Laptops are portable in nature, that is, they can be carried to any place with ease and comfort. Moreover, they run on battery, unlike desktop computers, which allows one to take them outdoors when they are fully charged. Apart from such differences, the features of both laptops and desktop computers remain almost the same, except for the ones that are present in laptops may be more advanced.

The basic distinction between a notebook and a laptop is that, a notebook has far more battery life than a laptop does, which means once you have charged it, you can take it outdoors and use it for a much longer period as compared to that of a laptop. The size also varies as these are much smaller and can be compared to the size of actual notebooks. Even though they offer the feature of having a longer battery life, which may extend up to 6 hours, they do lack some of the many up to date ones which are usually present in a laptop. For this reason, these are cheaper in comparison.

Even though, both are portable, being smaller in size and lighter in weight, notebooks tend to offer a bigger advantage to people who need to take their laptops along with them outdoors on a regular basis. For them, it may at times become difficult to carry around laptops which are heavier in size.

However, there are areas in which laptops seem to excel and notebooks lag behind. For example, laptops have a lot more compatibility to changes in the hardware as compared to notebooks. Moreover, in laptops, a number of drives are attached by the manufacturers, which is actually possible due to their larger size.

As both laptops and notebooks have their pros and cons, it may become difficult to decide which one should be chosen over the other and why. Even though, for a lot of people the fact that notebooks have a smaller size might be the most appealing feature of all. However, if consideration is given to the number of features that it may lack due to the small size, one may become doubtful about purchasing it. Thus, if you want a replacement for your desktop computer, but something that offers portability too nonetheless, you should go for laptops.

These would provide mobility, storage and a number of updated features which you would not gain otherwise.
