Litigation is defined as: A legal proceeding in a court; a judicial contest to determine and enforce legal rights (source: Google Dictionary). Basically, Litigation is the carrying out of a lawsuit through the court system. Litigation Attorney's are the lawyers who handle this process, and make sure it is carried out smoothly.

There are many types of attorneys. Tax attorneys handle tax. Some attorneys handle injury. DUI attorneys handle DUI cases, and so on. As many different court cases you can think of, for each of them, there is a lawyer that handles each case. Likewise, for every case you think of, there is a litigation attorney. Each case will have the main attorney, and also have a litigation attorney. This is due to litigation being a completely different subject than injury or tax.

Litigation is used in virtually every court case. A case that includes injuries, will include litigation. Because of this, there are many types of litigation attorney's. There is a different type of litigation attorney for each of these cases. Even though there are so many different types of cases, most litigation attorney's are used for personal injury cases. Most injury cases are complex and contain have many parts. In cases like these, the workload is too much for just one litigation attorney. In these cases, teams of litigation attorney's are used.

Law is extremely complicated. Because of this, there needs to be a separate attorney for litigation work. A normal attorney does the work on the case, so separate attorney's handle litigation work. Litigation work is tedious, and is not for everyone. Litigation work rarely goes quickly, as there are so many details to handle. Because of this, litigation attorneys are occasionally forced to work long hours. This is a universal for most attorneys, though, not just litigation. Pay for a litigation attorney is above average, but not extremely impressive. On average, a litigation attorney makes $67,000 a year.
