How To Replace iPhone 3G Screen Digitizer - Technology

This repair guide shows iPhone users how to replace the iPhone 3G screen and digitizer assembly. iPhone repair Cincinnati shows the proper steps to take when taking this iPhone apart. The screen assembly can be replaced in two ways. The easy way to do this is to use a pre-assembled screen part and the more difficult way is to replace the individual glass screen component.

You will need the following tools for this repair: philips head and flat head screwdrivers, a plastic spudger tool, and a suction cup.

Step 1.

Remove the two screws located on the bottom of the iPhone.

Step 2.

Use the suction cup to gently pry open the iPhone screen assembly. The screen is still attached to the motherboard inside. Use caution when removing it from the phone. Prying too hard can cause permanent damage to the connections on the phone.

Step 3.

Lift up the screen and disconnect the number 1, 2 and 3 connections in that exact order. The spudger tool should be used for this. Be careful disconnecting the number 3 connection. Push the plastic tab up to slide the connector out.

Step 4.

Take the LCD screen out of the screen assembly. There are six screws that need to be removed that are holding the LCD in place.

Step 5.

Lift the LCD out of the frame. Use the flathead screwdriver to help pry the LCD out.

*At this point the easier method for the screen replacement is finished. Just switch the old screen assembly with the new one. However, if you are only replacing the glass digitizer then you need to continue on to the next steps.

Step 6.

Heat the screen up around the edges by using a blow drier or heat gun. This process breaks down the adhesive holding the screen. Be careful not to overheat the assembly.

In order to protect the flex cables, iPhone repair Cincinnati suggests keeping them under the glass for the duration of this process.

Step 7.

Use the flathead screwdriver to pry the glass from the plastic assembly. Gently move the screwdriver around the frame keeping the edges straight.

Step 8.

Clean the adhesive of the frame before moving to the next step.

Step 9.

Use the adhesive kit and install it on the frame.

Step 10.

Take the iPhone screen assembly, remove the protective film and install onto the plastic frame.

*before finalizing the installation, make sure that the home button is not stuck to the adhesive as well.

Step 11.

Place the LCD back inside the screen frame. Don't forget to screw down the LCD to the frame with the 6 screws.

Step 12.

Re-install the three connectors back to the motherboard. You should feel them pop into place.

Step 13.

Close the screen into the iPhone.

Step 14.

Place the last two screws into the bottom of the iPhone.

That's it! You just repaired your iPhone 3G screen thanks to iPhone Repair Cincinnati guide.
