Graduate Engineering Jobs: What Are The Opportunities For Job Applicants? - Careers

Engineering is a branch of study that is pursued by the largest number of students all over the world, and there are plenty of jobs that are created each year in this discipline. Pursuing your studies in this branch is convenient as there are several branches of study e.g. civil, mechanical, and electrical or electronics. With the intervention of IT, millions of graduate engineering jobs were created during the last ten years in different parts of the world. The emergence of IT revolutionised the concept of engineering and computer technology replaced manual techniques and equipments faster than one could imagine. As a matter of fact, information technology has almost doubled the number of applicants who have applied for jobs in this discipline.

The graduate engineering jobs in IT have been in hot demand since its inception as computers have made their way into the lives of people and there is hardly any area in which computers are not used. As far as graduate engineering jobs in IT are concerned, the jobs are divided into various categories. While some people are working with the programming languages and software, others are associated with sales and marketing. In fact, the software boom that began a few years back have paved the way for students to ask for huge salaries, which was until then a grim reality. The phones in the recruitment agencies would never stop ringing, and the students got excellent job offers even when they had not received their degrees.

The upsurge reduced with the passage of time, and the IT boom had taken a backseat during the global economic crisis during which several companies had to give pink slips to their employees. It is during this time that graduate engineering jobs started to become redundant in no time and improvements could be seen only after three years as far as recruitment is concerned. Even those students who had studied engineering with a hope to get better opportunities of working in the most flourishing organizations took no risk and sought jobs in government undertakings owing to job security. Although the economic crisis has receded now, but the demand for jobs in this area have not really caught up since then.

There are several reputed engineering colleges that are located in many countries across the world. Those students who are able to get admission in these colleges certainly have better chances than those who are studying in the non-reputed institutions. Although, the situation does not look much positive about the creation of graduate engineering jobs, millions of students are still making serious efforts to get a degree in the engineering discipline. Despite the fact, that so many students lost their jobs during the recession, there is no dearth of students who still consider this as the most secured profession for all. However, the students move onto other fields or opt for diversification as many students pursue a degree in management for the purpose of supplementing their education.

Graduate engineering jobs have reduced as compared to the number of applicants. On the other hand, more and more people are now thinking about joining a management curriculum for getting better opportunities than graduate engineering jobs.
