A Fast New RIM Device-The Blackberry Bold 9790 - Technology - Cell Phones

RIM are set to launch their brand new Bold 9790 device very soon to the delight of Blackberry fans everywhere. This new handset looks very similar to previous devices in the range but offers some excellent improvements that help the phone compete against many rival smartphones that are currently available. We take a quick look at what this model has to offer. As is consistent with previous Bold devices the new 9790 is constructed from the very best materials to help ensure that this model will look great and perform well for a longer period than many current phones. The body is built from high quality metals and plastics that make the phone look and feel superb. The screen that is fitted on the model is finished with a scratch resistant coating that helps prevent it picking up scratches and damage over the course of its life. In terms of dimensions the phone measures 110 x 60 x 11.4mm and weighs just 107 grammes which is considerably lighter than the 130 grammes that the Bo ld 9900 weighs. One of the big improvements present on this model that was not available on many earlier devices is that the famous optical trackpad is now accompanied by a capacitive touchscreen. This gives the user a choice of how they navigate around the display. The touchscreen is perfect for web pages or for managing audio and video files whilst the optical trackpad proves more accurate when editing text documents and composing emails. The screen can display a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels which may not sound particularly great but is impressive considering the screen measures just 2.45 inches.RIM have established a tradition for producing phones that operate at a very fast speed and the Blackberry Bold 9790 is no exception. The phone sports a 1Ghz Marvell PXA930 processor which despite only offering a single core still operates at a lightning fast pace. This processor is accompanied by 768MB of RAM which is more than enough to ensure that the model can handle any futu re updates and software that may be released. As you would expect the model runs on the Blackberry 7.0 operating system whcih is the best version of the software that has ever been released. The user interface on the phone looks superb thanks to the Liquid Graphics system that the operating system supports and all icons and widgets are attractive and colourful. There is a high quality camera incorporated in the model that is capable of capturing images at a resolution of 5 million pixels whilst video recording is also available in more basic VGA quality.

The new Blackberry Bold 9790 is a welcome new addition to the range. This model will not compete with the premium smartphones that are available but proves a great alternative to the dozens of touchscreen mid range phones that are available.

The Blackberry Bold 9790 is coming soon and the Blackberry Bold 9900 is available now.
